The first day of the Sasquatch Music Festival (Sat., May 29) will feature an impressive lineup comprised of Vampire Weekend, the National, My Morning Jacket, Deadmau5, Broken Social Scene, OK Go, Public Enemy, Wale, the Hold Steady, Miike Snow, Brother Ali, Minus The Bear, Z-Trip, the Very Best, Nurses, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, the Posies, Aziz Ansari and others. Things just get better each day at Sasquatch, as the batch of performers lined up for Sunday (May 30) include Massive Attack, Pavement, LCD Soundsystem, Kid Cudi, Tegan and Sara, They Might Be Giants, Kid Cudi, Dirty Projectors, Public Enemy, the xx, Girls, Booka Shade and Local Natives.
Monday is usually the dreaded first day of the work week for most 9-to-5ers, but not in George, Wash. on May 31, because those at the Sasquatch Music Festival will be listening to bands like MGMT, Ween, Band of Horses, Passion Pit and She & Him. Additional artists lined up to perform on the final day of Sasquatch 2010 include the New Pornographers, the Temper Trap, Drive-By Truckers, Boys Noize, Dr. Dog, Camera Obscura, Neon Indian and more.
The Sasquatch Music Festival is making steps towards becoming a greener event this time around by encouraging attendees to carpool to the Gorge Amphitheatre and is even offering prizes (thanks to the help of sponsor Esurance) for those who do. The 2010 edition is also certified carbon neutral by Carbon Harmony, a nationally-recognized clean energy consulting firm, according to the festival's official website. The three-day event will be 100 percent wind powered and Carbon Harmony will offset 125 percent of the greenhouse gas emissions produced during Sasquatch.
Honda is an official eco-partner of the 2010 edition of the Sasquatch Music Festival and will be showcasing the Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid and the Insight at the Honda Hybrid Zone during the event. Music fans attending Sasquatch can also recharge their cell phones (campers, take note!) in the Honda Hybrid Zone. Esurance helped Sasquatch launch a recycling program in 2007 and last year the plan kept a whopping 4.5 tons of waste out of landfills—which is enough to coat 20 football fields with trash!
Founded by concert promoter Adam Zacks, the inaugural Sasquatch Music Festival was held in 2002 and featured Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Blackalicious, String Cheese Incident and others. Since then, artists like Death Cab for Cutie, the Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, Fleet Foxes, Arcade Fire, Ghostland Observatory, Nine Inch Nails, Matisyahu and others have made Sasquatch a regular stop while on the summer music festival circuit each year.
