LAWN MOWER Repair-techs (or us RED-NECK folks) needed..........?

I'm replacing the Mulcher Door on my Craftsman rotary lawn mower.
I cannot determine how the Torsion Spring should be attached in the Hinge rod mechanics on the mulcher door.
How should this spring be positioned and how far (which-side) on the hinge rod should this spring hold this door closed?

Please provide DIAGRAMS of this spring for me to repair my lawn mower.

The owners manual provides no specific mechanical details as this.

It's funny. I had the same problem with a different brand of mower last year. No matter how I tried that darn spring it just was not right. I could not find a diagram online anywhere. I finally went to the store where it was bought and looked at an assembled one on the floor to see how it should go. I smacked myself on the forehead and said "Of course that's how it goes." I went home ans finished the job. Since Craftsman is Sears maybe a trip to your local Sears would solve your problem...
