Are Anti-Fungal Creams Good Yeast Infection Medication

Candida yeast infections can infect any parts of our body especially the skin, vagina, mouth, nails and the intestinal tracts.  This kind of infection is scientifically called, candidiasis or moniliasis.

Candida yeast infection is fungal in origin meaning the cause of infection is a fungus.  The genitals or the mouth are the easy target of this fungal infection because this is the part of the body that is often times moist.  From here the infection can spread fast to the other parts of the body.

Normally, the body in its normal state can harbor a relatively small amount of fungus called candida albicans.  This tolerance for this type of fungus is because of the fact that they are kept in control by some bacteria in the body.  The population of both fungus and bacteria are kept in balance.  At this juncture there is no danger for the body of one (either fungus or bacteria) being more superior in numbers to the other.

But because of some medications like antibiotics, the bacterial presence might easily dwindle.  Antibiotics attack specifically bacteria. If this happens the number of fungus are left to proliferate without hindrance from the bacteria.  This is the time that some unwanted symptoms of the fungus can be observed in the body.

An example of fungus growing in numbers and causing symptoms in the body is yeast infection.  If a person has been diagnosed with this fungal infection it is always best to recommend yeast infection medication.  This vaginal infection is also called candidiasis and tends to recur frequently whenever the fungus grows uncontrollably too many.

This fungal infection can cause great discomfort during urination and especially during sexual intercourse. Yet, yeast infection cures can be readily prescribed by medical doctors.  This is generally not a life threatening disease and can easily be cured.

The most common way to cure yeast infections are the anti-fungal creams.  These are generally applied to the affected area two or three times daily until improvement occurs.  It may then be possible to maintain improvement by applying once a day or even less often.

The anti-fungal creams are used to treat candidiasis of the vagina and the penis. But before you apply this type of medication it is always best to consult with your doctor for any specific instructions.  Anti-fungal creams are said to be effective yeast infection medication as verified by some people.

However, some people also observed that it is also good to have suppositories and tablets as a cure for yeast infections.  Tablets are taken internally and are supposed to enter the bloodstream and target the fungal infection.

This form of treatment is commonly advised among drug dependents and addicts or other seriously ill persons, where the candida fungus have entered the bloodstream and can possibly invade the kidneys, brain or lung of the person.  However, this occurrence is very rare but there is a possibility that this can happen.

Suppositories meanwhile are inserted inside the vagina and the suppositories are left there for several hours in order for the medication to take effect and destroy the fungus.

Below are some reasons why there is an increase in the so-called candida fungus:

• Antibiotics taken to cure and eliminate some bacteria in the body can make some fungus more active and able to proliferate more. The balance is thereby destroyed when one protagonist is taken out of the picture.
• Women who are taking birth control pills are also more susceptible to fungal infection.  Birth control pills usually disrupt the normal flora of the vagina.  The disturbance can cause the fungus to multiply fast.
• People with weak immune system are also at a greater risk of contracting this fungal infection.  The general lack of body defense mechanism can also lead to the abnormal growth of the candida fungus.  Also in danger are people taking immunosuppressant drugs or those people undergoing chemotherapy might also contract yeast infection.

It is however advised that people who are suspected to have yeast infection to see their doctors immediately and get some yeast infection medication.  Treating the symptoms early on will prevent further serious complications in the future.
