A brief history of silicone breast implants
The FDA approved the silicone gel implants for unrestricted use in 2006. This led a boom in breast implants with silicone gel. Perhaps the manufacturers deserve after having experienced fourteen years of review by the FDA?
Women in all the U.S. opt for breast augmentation surgery. They want more, firmer breasts and they do not care how much it costs or what risks - so some caution, but the vast majority are not! Early on, silicone gel implants that are believed to cause cancer. This fear was subsequently annulled by the medical community, but the seed had been planted fear, and it would push again and again over the years whenever someone with silicone gel implants made until the hay!
During the 80s, the increase breast surgery have been increasing, and the silicone gel implants have been the number one choice among women for their procedure. Their popularity continued in the early 90s. But while their popularity was growing, so a public uncertainty as to their overall security. Critical mass was reached when thousands of women filed complaints against the major manufacturer of silicone breast implants, Dow Corning. Shortly after these lawsuits were filed, Dow Corning filed bankruptcy. The FDA responded to this and banned the use of silicone gel implants to they are able to conduct a thorough clinical examination trial to determine their overall safety for public use.
It took fourteen years to finally give FDA silicone gel implants for their seal of approval restriction used in breast augmentation surgery. Monopoly that saline implants once held is now gone, and the silicone gel implants have become once again the required number of implants for breast augmentation procedures breast in the United Kingdom the United States.
