This poem caught my eye while browsing the Internet. Monsoon brings joy as plants wear a light green, the rivers swell to the other side and dry get wet. The dark side of this season is increased humidity, which human problems.
What is humidity?
Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air. It is usually described as "relative humidity" and expressed as a percentage. A 100% humidity means that water vapor in the air is maximized at a given temperature.
When the humidity is low (much less water vapor in the air) evaporation of the surrounding areas is rapid. And the clothes dry quickly, soil dries out, the sweat evaporates from the skin etc.
When humidity is high (amount of water vapor is in the air), clothes dry slowly, sweat does not evaporate of the skin and we feel sticky and uncomfortable.
We feel comfortable when the humidity is 45-50% and temperature from 20 to 22 degrees Celsius. Any variation in these large can cause health problems.
Effects of increased humidity on the human body:
The human body maintains its temperature by transferring heat from the body to the surrounding air through evaporation of perspiration (sweat). When humidity is high in the air the evaporation of sweat decreases and maintenance of body temperature is altered. With high humidity if the temperature atmosphere is high, increases blood flow to the surface of the skin and decreases in muscle and other organs. So we are experiencing fatigue in the climate which is high in temperature and humidity.
Mold, mildew, bacteria, viruses, dust mites thrive when humidity increases in the surrounding air. They grow on air conditioners, shower heads, damp walls, toilets, wet carpets and other wet substances. Their spores are called bioaerosols, are constantly released into the air. Bioaerosols cause infections and allergies. They trigger asthma attacks and other respiratory diseases.
The researchers found that osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis reflections in the high humid weather.
According to Ayurvedic texts moisture increases during the rainy season. The Agni (the fire of the body or digestive power) is reduced to During the summer, further reduces and becomes stale by the doshas. Doshas get vitiated due to weather changes such as increased moisture, the cold, humidity, etc.
How to reduce the humidity in the home
1. Fix the source that is causing moisture or humidity in the home. Leaking roofs, taps and tanks must be repaired to prevent leakage.
2. Keep the rain drain without shoes and let rainwater drain flow from your basement.
3. Turn on fans or fans ventilation after bathing and cooking.
4. Do not dry clothes inside. This increases humidity inside the house.
5. Use a digital hygrometer to monitor humidity.
6. Use a dehumidifier to lower humidity 50% or less.
Ayurvedic tips for staying healthy in wet conditions:
1. We must submit to therapy detoxification, as Vamana and Virechana.
2. Asthapana basthi (An enema of herbal decoction) has to be administered to keep away from moisture problems related to health.
3. The digestive system becomes weakened due to dehydration summer. This leads to low digestive power. This is further weakened by the vices and doshas dhatus due to increased humidity. Thus the following schemes, that increase the power of digestion and strengthen the digestive system would be beneficial.
a. Light foods prepared from barley, rice and wheat older.
b. Sour and salted soups of vegetables.
C. Drinking boiled and cooled water mixed with honey.
d. Consuming small amounts of wine made from grapes.
e. Add ginger and green gram in daily diet.
f. Eat hot food.
g. The taste of food has to be sour and salt preference.
4. Do not walk barefoot. Always wear dry foot wear to prevent fungal growth on the nails and between toes. Dry your feet and webs with soft dry cloth when they are wet.
5. Clothing should be fumigated with fragrant herbs. Drying clothes with fumes and dry leaves Loban Neem is recommended in Ayurvedic texts.
6. We must not sleep in the cellar because it will be wet and the growth of molds and fungi will be more.
7. Fumigation of the house with smoke of dried neem leaves in evenings for 1-2 minutes is an excellent ayurvedic method to check the growth of microbes,
