Diabetes is a serious disease. The American Podiatric Medical Association recommends that people with diabetes should check their feet daily. Check areas of irritation, inflammation, color, texture, smell, firm or hardened areas, or other changes to their feet.
It is also recommended that people suffering diabetes see their healthcare provider at least once a year for a screening of the ground floor and immediately if there are signs of change or broken skin or ulcers. Foot problems are the leading cause of hospitalization among diabetic patients. And about half of patients with diabetes have nerve damage, which can cause numbness, pain, and weakness in the feet or other body parts.
Patients should wash your feet warm with often - not hot - water and dry thoroughly, especially between the toes. Moisturizers should be applied, but not between the toes. The Corns and calluses should be gently sanded and nails cut short and the edges filed to avoid cutting adjacent toes. Use a file Emery, not a metal file, to avoid cutting the skin when you file your nails.
