Nail Salons and health hazards of chemicals

Did you ever walk in a nail salon (or barber shop) and ask chemical hazard to health to those who work or attend trade shows?

In today's society, nail salons can be seen just about every mall in North America. Unfortunately, many of these lounges offer cheap prices and rental refugees who are willing to work for low wages. The adverse health affects are endless for both the employee and the client (but more for the employee).

In California alone, more than 114,000 nail technicians and more than 260,000 licensed cosmetologists license. Current data are insufficient, but this time the language is considered the most common obstacle when trying to obtain health and safety information.

Many young women in their fertile years and did not even have kids yet and do not have a complete understanding of the risks health effects associated with chemicals used in nail care.

According to a survey conducted last year from Central Northern California Cancer and Asian Health Services Oakland, women who work in those nail salons suffer acute health effects chemicals coming into contact with every day.

Many toxic and potentially dangerous ingredients, including solvents, plasticizers, resins and acids, commonly found in nail care products. Top three ingredients of concern in many nail products are:

• Toluene - used in nail polish - it is a clear, colorless liquid used to make products such as dyes, paints, paint thinners and explosives. Exposure to toluene may affect the central nervous system with symptoms like headache low headache, dizziness and fatigue. Toluene is also an irritant to eyes, nose and throat. At very high exposures, toluene was found to be toxic to the kidneys and liver, and is a possible reproductive toxin.
• Formaldehyde - used in nail polish, it is a conservative who has many uses, one of which is embaling. Formaldehyde is an irritant to eyes, nose and throat, and exposure may cause coughing, wheezing and asthma symptoms. repeated exposure of the skin can lead to skin irritation and a skin rash called allergic dermatitis. • Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) - Used in nail polish as a plasticizer. DBP is a reproductive toxin or possible development.

  Many women interviewed said have questioned and health problems after starting work in the industry, including skin irritation and eye problems breathing and headaches. These are just some of the apparent health problems reported and does not cover more chronic illnesses.

  It should mention that there is a difference between "high-end salons" and what is considered "low-end salons." For example, products used in high-end salons are of better quality means better wording which corresponds to less toxic chemicals. Like when you get a manicure or pedicure typically French, is made by hand with nail polish. Whereas, at a fair low end, it would applied with a spray that emits toxic particles high into the air.

  If you are a consumer in the long term and for health reasons, it is always better to pay a little more and go to upscale salon for your nails. Make sure the salon you frequent ventilation adequate to keep a high level of cleanliness.

  Similarly, every worker in a nail salon should ensure they are aware of all health risks and safety and to obtain a copy of these risks in their respective languages.
