Salon treatments safe in pregnancy?

There's nothing like a new haircut or hair color, or pedicure and manicure to make you feel like a new woman. Especially when a pregnancy can leave you feeling tired and changing hormones can make you feel not quite yourself. But these treatments are safe for your baby? Exposure to certain environmental agents called teratogens during pregnancy can cause congenital malformations. Experts are divided on how the exposure is too much, but right now there are no proven risks for most salon visits and there are several things you can do to help minimize potential problems.

Nails

Reduce your exposure to smoke is the most important thing you can do this by getting a manicure. You may want the safe side and just as your hair is frosted, highlighted or streaked with little contact with your scalp. Beware of natural dyes that may still contain synthetic chemicals. Pure vegetable henna can be an alternative, but not everyone want a red-orange hue. If you choose to have their hair dyed, you should know that changing hormones can affect how the dye affects your color hair.

Tanning beds

You should really spend on the treatment room. Excessive heat exposure is dangerous for pregnancy and exposure to UV rays can damage your immune system. There are salons and day spas that cater exclusively to pregnant women. For peace of mind, you may want to find a salon that understands your needs during your pregnancy.
