How not to look old when you are fabulous over 50
Ahh, the effects of being a woman of 50 years. We have wrinkles around eyes, fuzz on our faces, sagging breasts, expanding waistlines and graying hair. It is more difficult to find a good pair of jeans that you appropriate. We prefer high-heeled shoes home. Clothing seems to be designed for our mothers or our daughters. Style over 50 becomes permanently a greater challenge.
But there is nothing that says we have to adjust our eyes and accept our body just because we age. In fact, there is a whole new you that can be found with just a few simple changes to your makeup and wardrobe. This is not the change you get a plastic surgeon we've all seen women who was much before "just a little work done." Rather minor in things like hair, lipstick, skirt length and even nail polish that will make us look younger and feel better about ourselves.
I recently started reading How not to look old by Charla Krupp. Charla was the beauty director at Glamour magazine and editor Chief of In Style, as well as appearing on television countless on the Today Show, Oprah and Tyra. I'll share with you his pointers here in articles to come as I explore ways to look younger while staying away from the doctor's office, from clothing to hairstyles nails for women over 50. As Charles said, "We will fight against aging, and we're going to look great to do."
The first Charla recommends thing is to assess your level of maintenance. "Are you high, medium or low maintenance?
• You are high maintenance, if you never leave home without a face full of makeup, wearing work clothes when traveling, your favorite store Neiman Marcus is, you spend your lottery winnings on a lift and the feet of your flight are all gone.
• You are average maintenance if you never leave the house without lipstick and mascara, you wear pants and a nice sweater on a trip, you shop at Sephora, Neiman instead, you would spend your lottery winnings on a new wardrobe and your feet in flight are a constant source of concern.
• You are low maintenance if you ever leave the house without a clean face, you wear whatever is most comfortable when you travel, you choose Williams Sonoma at Ann Taylor, you spend your winnings the lottery on a new car and goose feet never cross your mind.
