Anti-Tobacco Hysteria Kills Free Choice

Strange times! When people we hardly know get to rule our lives, well, they do. Every new regime eagerly enacts more laws rarely repealing old ones. In the market those with delegated authority inevitably stack on more regulations, more orders, rules, regulations and more too. And To top it off, various lobby groups to push legislation relevant to their own ideological perspective or interest. As the years pass, and more and more rights are extinguished, more personal liberties trashed, little by little we become substitutes for other worldviews.

Speaking with others, they have resurfaced in Rodrigues. Recently, anti-tobacco lobbyists are pressing for a blanket prohibition of all tobacco farmers on the island. Or more precisely, they want a right possessed and exercised by people throughout human history, taken to the detriment of farmers dirt hand to mouth. Lobbyists from tobacco damages health, and increasingly on their doorstep only encourages Rodrigues smoke. Another argument is that contact with wet tobacco causes dermal absorption of nicotine, which causes nausea, malaise, dizziness, abdominal cramps, respiratory complications and heart problems. Education to discourage children from starting to smoking, and support for smokers wishing to quit smoking or manage their behavior can help - stunts will not.
