How to make acrylic paint thicker?

I currently use a gel medium gel brilliant golden or regular gel gloss Heavy .. With this kind of thing I think I have to use too much and this stuff is expensive .. I do not textured acrylic paint, so I need my painting really thick sometimes. I tried gesso, but its thickness does ????//
